RE-IMAGINING JAZZ, FOLK, ROCK ORCHESTRAL AND CHORAL MUSIC
Born in London, I have lived and travelled across the UK, Antarctica and North America, and now call Scotland home.
‘Even Song’ (2015) is an album with a reflective mood mirroring the fading light at the end of the day, and received positive reviews. Modern jazz compositions (Öström, Carroll, Warren) are mixed with 80s rock tunes (Knopfler, Gabriel, Cockburn) and traditional ancient tunes from Sweden, Scotland. North America end England, culminating in the haunting third mode melody of Thomas Tallis. Original compositions help bring the album to a hopeful resolution.
‘Discover and Endure’ (2019) is an album inspired by stories and experience of landscape, exploration and human endurance. Original compositions and traditional tunes surround the centrepiece, an arrangement of Holst’s orchestral masterpiece ‘Egdon Heath’ revealing bi-tonality, tricky time signatures, bluesy scales, folky tunes and jazzy chords.
Live audiences hear my solo guitar work as ‘serene’, ‘focusing’, ‘calming’, ‘beautiful’, ‘haunting’ and ‘hypnotic music’, creating an the ‘ambience of tranquility and pleasure’. 2019 live events include the album launch at RRS Discovery, Dundee, and the Edinburgh Fringe show ‘Guitar Discovery’.
