Pianist and composer Paul Harrison has won Scottish Jazz Awards for both his playing and writing. This new project, launched to a full house in this year’s Edinburgh Jazz Festival, has at its core Harrison and drummer Stu Brown who together have been appearing regularly in underground venues as free-rolling ‘improtronica’ duo Herschel 36. With the addition of the expansive tones and imaginations of guitarist Graeme Stephen and saxophonist Phil Bancroft, they harness the sound of electronica to the melodic and rhythmic adventure of jazz – in a thrilling and utterly up to date way. Fusion that shakes off all previous connotations of the word.
