Trio Verso

Combining the evocative lyric poetry of Brian Johnstone with improvised, jazz soundscapes from Richard Ingham (saxes, bass clarinet & ‘trombophone’) and Louise Major (double bass), Trio Verso refocus the ideas behind the 1950s poetry & jazz movement for a 21st century audience. Bringing an original approach to live poetry, in the context of music at times rhythmically swinging and at others atmospheric and haunting, Trio Verso is a genuine fusion of original poetry with jazz grooves and improvised soundscapes.

“The audience’s attentiveness matched that of the performers in the vivid improvisations Ingham and Major wove around Johnstone’s poetry.”
