This is a Whighams Jazz Club Summer Special and we’re beyond thrilled to have with us this week the first-ever live performance of The Modern Vintage Dance Band – a project created by trumpet maestro Ewan Mains with some well-known faces in this fabulous band. If the showreel, which was launched last week ,is anything to go by,we are in for a VERY special evening.
The Modern Vintage Jazz Band takes its lead from the rather excellent Scott Bradlee’s Post Modern Jukebox where a raft of recent and not-so-recent tunes are ‘reimagined’ and given lush new ‘vintage’ arrangements which wouldn’t be out of place in the dime bars, speakeasys and dance halls of the 20s and 30s.
So..feed your soul with the showreel (below) and come along next Sunday to see this great band which features – Stephen Duffy (vocal) Louise Mochan (vocal) Ewan Mains (trumpet/flugel), Allon Beauvoison (reeds), Mike Meyer (trombone), Jay Kilbride (double bass), Michael Kelly (keys) and Andrew Cowie (drums)
But there’s more….
After the two sets by The Modern Vintage Dance Band – sit back and relax to the sound of a set from Andrea Carlson & The Love Police – here for the festival and firm favourites at Whighams. The band features Andrea Carlson (guitar and vocal) Campbell Normand(piano), Mac Given (reeds) Jay Kilbride (double bass) and David Bopdrummer (drums)
NOTE – The Jam session takes a well earned break this week!
