Spark Trio are back with their monthly series (now on Fridays!) and this month feature a double-guitar line-up, joined by prestigious Scottish guitarist Kevin Mackenzie.
Hailed as ‘’an international-class jazz performer’’ by The Herald, Kevin has been active at the highest levels of Scottish jazz for many years. For a time, he lived in New York, performing with some of the city’s finest and hosting a residency at The Rooster Bar – his 2009 release ‘East of East 7th Street’ features some of these top American musicians, including guest saxophonist Donny McCaslin. Also a distinguished composer, in 2001 Kevin received the Creative Scotland Award, which he used to write and record music for his nine-piece band ‘Kevin Mackenzie’s Vital Signs’ to critical acclaim, chosen as album of the month in The Observer, and CD of the week in The Guardian. More recently, Kevin has been touring new music with his own trio, featuring Mario Caribe and Alyn Cosker.
Kevin’s fruitful career has seen performances with many jazz greats including Kenny Wheeler, Ari Hoenig and Bobby Wellins. Tonight he joins Spark Trio to perform some of his original compositions and selections from the modern jazz repertoire.
